Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has said that the opening of schools is being considered under the Code of Conduct (SOPs).
A high level meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on the issue of opening schools.
Talking to media after the meeting, Shafqat Mehmood said that the government was seriously considering the issue of opening schools under the code, seeking suggestions from all provinces including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, madrassas and private institutions.
According to a survey, 70% of parents want to send their children to school, he said.
He added that he was also in touch with UNICEF on the issue of opening schools.
It may be recalled that in a media briefing after the meeting of the National Coordinating Committee last month, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had said that earlier it was decided to keep the educational institutions closed till May 31, which is now being extended for another month and a half. Educational institutions will remain closed until July 15.
